To transfer Microsoft Authenticator to a new phone, you can follow these steps:
1. On your current or old phone, open the Microsoft Authenticator app.
2. In the app, go to the settings or options menu. This is typically represented by three dots or lines in the top right or bottom of the screen.
3. Look for an option like "Backup and Restore" or "Transfer Accounts."
4. Select the backup or transfer option and follow the instructions to create a backup of your accounts. This usually involves choosing a cloud storage service (such as OneDrive) or generating a QR code.
5. Make sure you securely save the backup or QR code generated during the process. You may need it to restore your accounts on the new phone.
6. On your new phone, install the Microsoft Authenticator app from the app store specific to your device's operating system.
7. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on the new phone.
8. Follow the initial setup prompts and grant any necessary permissions.
9. In the app, go to the settings or options menu.
10. Look for an option like "Backup and Restore" or "Transfer Accounts."
11. Select the restore or transfer option and choose the method you used to create the backup or QR code in the previous steps.
- If you chose a cloud storage service, sign in to the same account you used for the backup and select the backup file to restore the accounts.
- If you generated a QR code, use the camera on your new phone to scan the QR code you saved from the old phone.
12. Follow the instructions provided by the app to complete the account restoration process.
Once the accounts are restored, Microsoft Authenticator on your new phone should have all the same accounts and settings as on your old phone. You can now use it to generate verification codes for two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging in to your accounts.
Note: It's always a good practice to have backup codes or alternative account recovery options for your accounts, as this can help you regain access even if you lose your old phone without a backup.
