To set up Microsoft Authenticator on your device, follow these steps:
1. On your smartphone or tablet, go to the app store specific to your device's operating system (App Store for iOS or Google Play Store for Android).
2. Search for "Microsoft Authenticator" in the app store's search bar.
3. Locate the official Microsoft Authenticator app and tap on it.
4. Tap the "Install" or "Get" button to download and install the app.
5. Once the app is installed, find the Microsoft Authenticator icon on your home screen and tap to open it.
6. On the initial screen, you may be asked to sign in to your Microsoft account. If prompted, enter your Microsoft account credentials and proceed to the next step.
7. To add a new account to Microsoft Authenticator, tap the "+" or "Add account" button.
8. You will be presented with two options: "Work or school account" or "Personal account." Select the appropriate option based on the type of account you want to set up.
9. Depending on the type of account selected, you will have different setup options:
- For a "Work or school account," you may be asked to enter your email address associated with your organization's account. Follow the instructions provided to complete the setup.
- For a "Personal account," you may have the option to scan a QR code or enter your account credentials manually. Choose the appropriate method and follow the instructions displayed on the screen.
10. Once you have successfully added an account, it will appear in the Microsoft Authenticator app's account list.
11. The app will now generate a verification code for the added account. This code will refresh every 30 seconds.
12. Repeat the process to add any additional accounts you want to set up in Microsoft Authenticator.
With the accounts added to Microsoft Authenticator, you can use the app to generate time-based verification codes for two-factor authentication (2FA) when logging in to the corresponding websites or services.
Remember to securely store any backup codes provided during the setup process and consider enabling any available backup or recovery options within the Microsoft Authenticator app to safeguard against data loss or device changes.
